ROTEC USA Selected to Provide Water Treatment Systems for El Centro Generating Station

MARLTON, N.J., Sept. 23, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- ROTEC USA LLC has been selected to provide advanced water treatment systems for the Imperial Irrigation District’s (IID) El Centro Generating Station (ECGS) in El Centro, California. The project, part of IID’s broader wastewater mitigation program, aims to eliminate surface-water discharge and increase onsite water reuse. The new treatment system will treat cooling tower blowdown wastewater for reuse within the facility.
The El Centro Generating Station, which produces over 330 MW of electricity, is a key component of IID’s generation fleet. The project will utilize ROTEC’s proprietary Flow Reversal Reverse Osmosis (FR-RO) technology, along with membrane microfiltration, to treat chemically softened cooling tower blowdown wastewater. The recovered water will serve as feed to the boiler feed reverse osmosis systems, enabling further onsite reuse. The substantially reduced concentrate stream will be directed to evaporation ponds.

The project is being delivered by W. M. Lyles Co. as the progressive design-builder, working alongside Aqua Engineering and Albert A. Webb Associates for the engineering and design team. ROTEC’s systems are designed to maximize recovery, generate more clean water, reduce raw water demand, minimize brine volumes, extend membrane life, and reduce operating costs, chemical use, and cleaning events.
ROTEC’s Flow Reversal technology addresses high-recovery water treatment and reuse needs across various industries, including municipal water, power generation, data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, food and beverage, oil and gas, and other water-intensive sectors. This project marks a significant step in IID’s efforts to enhance water management and sustainability at the El Centro Generating Station.
