ROHM Launches MOSFET with Industry-Leading Wide-SOA for Automotive Safety

ROHM Semiconductor has introduced a new MOSFET designed to enhance the reliability of automotive safety functions and protection circuits. The RS4P063BPHZG, a 100V MOSFET, is optimized for automotive applications and features an industry-leading wide-safe operating area (Wide-SOA) across a broad voltage range. This capability is particularly important for circuits that may experience momentary high-power loads, such as airbag inflator ignition and seatbelt pretensioner drive circuits.
The new product is packaged in the standard HPLF5060 (5060-size) package, which simplifies the replacement process for existing layouts. This makes it easier for manufacturers to integrate the new component without significant changes to their existing designs, thereby reducing costs and development time. According to ROHM, the RS4P063BPHZG offers approximately five times the SOA tolerance of standard equivalent-sized products under VDS=100V and PW=100μs. This enhanced performance contributes to greater reliability in automotive systems that are subject to sudden, high-power demands.
ROHM's track record in providing Wide-SOA products for AI servers and industrial power supplies has prepared the company to bring similar technologies to the automotive field. The RS4P063BPHZG is now available for purchase through online distributors such as DigiKey and Farnell. Design models and development tools are also available on ROHM’s website to support rapid circuit evaluation.
The company is also developing automotive Wide-SOA MOSFETs in the HPLF8080 (8.0 × 8.0mm) and TOLG (TO-Leaded with Gullwing, 9.9 × 11.7mm) packages. These efforts are part of ROHM's ongoing commitment to expanding its portfolio for automotive safety functions and protection circuits.
The RS4P063BPHZG is particularly suited for applications that require high SOA capability, such as airbag inflator ignition circuits, seatbelt pretensioner drive circuits, and pyro-fuse drive circuits for battery cutoff.
