SAN CARLOS, Calif., Oct. 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Resero Bio, a precision diagnostics company, has made significant strides in the field of cancer detection and treatment prediction with the publication of a study in Nature Medicine. The research, led by Stanford Cancer Institute and involving the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and other collaborating institutions, has demonstrated the potential of the company's cell-free RNA (cfRNA) liquid biopsy platform in non-invasive bladder cancer detection and treatment response prediction.
The study analyzed 683 urine samples from bladder cancer patients and controls using uRARE-seq, a proprietary targeted cfRNA sequencing method built on Resero Bio's core RARE-seq technology. The findings highlight the platform's ability to detect bladder cancer non-invasively, distinguishing between low-grade and high-grade tumors, as well as non-muscle invasive and muscle-invasive disease. This capability is particularly significant as current methods often require invasive tissue sampling via biopsy or resection.
Moreover, the research identified a pre-treatment molecular signature of immunotherapy response. Patients who achieved a complete molecular response to BCG immunotherapy showed pre-existing anti-tumor immune response signatures in urine cfRNA before treatment even began. This pre-treatment stratification could help inform treatment strategies, making it a valuable tool for clinicians.
The study also reported the ability to identify molecular residual disease (MRD) after treatment. It distinguished patients with complete molecular responses to surgery from those with incomplete responses who then responded to adjuvant BCG. Patients with complete molecular responses to either surgery or BCG showed much lower risk for recurrence than those with detectable tumor cfRNA after treatment.
Additionally, the cfRNA liquid biopsy platform detected transcriptionally distinct cfRNA profiles in urine samples from patients with renal cell carcinoma and prostate adenocarcinoma. This preliminary evidence suggests that the platform could be applicable for the detection of other types of cancer beyond bladder cancer.
The RARE-seq platform, developed by Resero Bio, is designed to be disease- and biofluid-agnostic. With capture panels optimized for both urine and plasma, the company has generated proof-of-concept cfRNA signal across ten solid tumor types. The platform supports non-invasive cancer detection, molecular and histological subtyping, risk stratification, treatment response prediction, pharmacodynamic monitoring, toxicity assessment, and characterization of resistance mechanisms across cancer types.
Resero Bio's platform is currently available for research use, marking a key milestone in the company's mission to unlock the full potential of precision medicine by measuring the cell-free transcriptome. The study's findings underscore the potential of the cfRNA liquid biopsy platform to transform cancer care by providing clinicians with valuable information beyond mere detection.
