PORT HURON, Mich., Oct. 2, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Quinism Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and researching the effects of quinoline drugs, will host an education session at the 10th Annual Mefloquine Conference in Ottawa, Ontario, on October 3, 2026. The session, led by the Foundation's executive and medical director, Dr. Remington Nevin, will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion's Montgomery Branch, located at 330 Kent Street in Ottawa.
Dr. Nevin, a board-certified occupational medicine and preventive medicine physician, will lead the session, which is aimed at providing information to veterans and others affected by mefloquine poisoning. The education session will include a question-and-answer period, opportunities to share resources, and support for those impacted by the drug. Attendees will have the chance to engage in discussions and gain a deeper understanding of the lasting effects of mefloquine poisoning.
The Quinism Foundation was founded in January 2018 and is based in Port Huron, Michigan. The organization focuses on promoting and supporting education and research on quinism, a medical disorder caused by quinoline drugs, including mefloquine and tafenoquine. Dr. Nevin, who is also a former U.S. Army medical officer and epidemiologist, will use his expertise to provide valuable insights during the session.
Following the education session, the conference will turn its focus to public awareness and advocacy on Sunday, October 4. Participants will gather at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m., before walking to Parliament Hill for speeches, presentations, and advocacy from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All times are local to Ottawa.
The Quinism Foundation emphasizes that symptoms of quinism can mimic and be mistaken for those of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, particularly among veterans.
The 10th Annual Mefloquine Conference is a significant event for those affected by the drug, providing a platform for education, support, and advocacy. The Quinism Foundation's participation in the conference underscores its commitment to raising awareness and promoting research on the long-term effects of quinoline drugs.
