POWERCHINA Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio in Egypt

BEIJING, Sept. 3, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in Egypt, adding wind power projects and energy storage infrastructure to its existing projects, as the two countries celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations. The move aims to support Egypt's sustainable energy transition and increase its renewable energy capacity.

POWERCHINA currently operates the 500-megawatt (MW) Amunet Gulf of Suez Wind Project and is constructing two additional wind projects, the 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Gulf of Suez Wind Project and the 202.5-MW Ras Ghareb Wind Project. The Amunet Wind Farm project faced significant challenges, including extreme temperatures, strong winds, sand erosion, and complex geological conditions. POWERCHINA managed these difficulties by optimizing concrete temperature control, scheduling concrete pouring outside the hottest hours, and monitoring wind speeds during turbine installation. The Amunet project not only achieved project acceptance earlier than the contractual obligation but also received the 2025 RoSPA Health and Safety Award.

Building on its global project delivery experience, POWERCHINA is now diversifying its Egyptian operations into energy storage and local manufacturing. In August 2026, the company began constructing Sungrow's new energy storage manufacturing facility in Ain Sokhna, occupying a 50,000-square-meter site. This facility is expected to enhance local manufacturing and talent development, contribute to the development of Egypt's clean energy supply chain, and establish Sungrow's first battery energy storage system manufacturing base in the Middle East and Africa.

Since entering Egypt in 2012, POWERCHINA has created over 2,000 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs. The company has also trained over 350 professionals in various roles, including quality control, health, safety, and environment (HSE), social management, materials management, and logistics. Additionally, POWERCHINA works with numerous Egyptian suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants in various engineering services, construction materials, and labor supply sectors.

Mahmoud, the head of local contractor Elalamya General Contracting, expressed warmth and optimism about the ongoing partnership, stating, "The collaboration between Elalamya and POWERCHINA has been a significant milestone in our journey. We look forward to continuing this fruitful relationship."

The expansion of POWERCHINA's renewable energy presence in Egypt reflects a broader shift from individual project delivery to a comprehensive clean-energy ecosystem. This includes generation, storage infrastructure, and localized industrial capacity. The company plans to continue working with both Egyptian and international partners to advance clean energy development and support Egypt's national energy strategy and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
