Platt College's Dr. Trudy Golub-Sowers Wins ACCSC Commitment to Education Award

Platt College faculty member Dr. Trudy Golub-Sowers has been named the 2026 recipient of the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges' (ACCSC) Commitment to Education Award. The award recognizes her sustained dedication to student success at Platt College's Riverside campus.

Dr. Golub-Sowers, who serves as the Clinical Director of Veterinary Technology at Platt College, was honored for her exceptional contributions to the education and success of veterinary technology students. Jaime Wallin, the Program Director of Veterinary Technology at Platt's Riverside campus, praised Dr. Golub-Sowers, stating, "Dr. Golub-Sowers embodies the qualities of an exceptional educator, mentor, and leader. Her integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to student success make her an invaluable member of our faculty."

Megan Clifton, Vice President of Academic and Regulatory Affairs at Platt College, added, "Trudy is deeply committed to helping students succeed throughout their education and into their careers, while also strengthening the connections between our students, the veterinary profession, and the communities we serve. This recognition from ACCSC is a well-deserved reflection of the dedication, expertise, and care she brings to Platt College every day."

Dr. Golub-Sowers' contributions extend beyond her regular teaching responsibilities. She works closely with graduates preparing for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), helping to support strong and steadily improving first-time pass rates. She has also expanded student externship opportunities through new clinical partnerships, including an emergency veterinary hospital and a local equine hospital. Additionally, she continues to practice veterinary medicine each week, bringing current, real-world veterinary knowledge and firsthand field experiences into the classroom. This ongoing clinical experience enables her to connect academic concepts with practical application.

Her involvement extends beyond Platt College. Dr. Golub-Sowers regularly volunteers alongside students at community veterinary service clinics and outreach events serving economically disadvantaged communities through the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association and other organizations.

Platt College's Veterinary Technology Associate of Science degree is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and is offered at campuses in Alhambra, Anaheim, Ontario, and Riverside, as well as through Distance Education. The program can be completed in as little as 19 months and prepares students for careers in veterinary medicine through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory training, and clinical experience.
