Pillar Biosciences, a global provider of next-generation sequencing (NGS) kitted solutions, has announced the addition of Todd Christian and Yann Echelard, Ph.D., to its Board of Directors. The appointments follow the company's latest strategic financing, which closed on July 31, 2026, and are expected to support Pillar's joint NGS automation strategies and advance its in vitro diagnostics (IVD) development and commercialization efforts.
"We are delighted to welcome Todd and Yann to our Board," said Gang Song, Ph.D., Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Pillar Biosciences. "Their extensive experience in the life sciences and diagnostics industries will be invaluable as we continue to scale the business, expand our biopharma companion diagnostics (CDx) partnerships, and enhance access to NGS-based cancer testing worldwide."
Todd Christian, a seasoned life sciences executive, currently serves as Senior Vice President, Services, Arrays, and Genomics Access at Illumina. With over 25 years of industry experience, Christian has led global growth initiatives, expanded access to genomic technologies, and guided organizations at the intersection of research, diagnostics, and precision medicine. His role at Pillar Biosciences will focus on corporate strategy, commercialization, business transformation, and strategic partnerships. Christian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Hamilton College.
Yann Echelard, Ph.D., a Partner at ORI Capital, brings over 30 years of experience in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals. His recent roles include Operating Partner at Flagship Pioneering, where he was the founding President of several companies, including Ring Therapeutics and Cellarity. Prior to Flagship Pioneering, Echelard served as President and CEO of rEVO Biologics and was previously the President and CEO of Genzyme Transgenics. As a director of TG Therapeutics and an advisor to the Gene and Cell Therapy Institute of Mass General Brigham, Echelard's expertise in corporate development and commercial management will be crucial as Pillar Biosciences expands its IVD portfolio and biopharmaceutical partnerships.
Pillar Biosciences is committed to delivering high analytical performance and operational efficiency for cancer testing through its proprietary SLIMamp® and PiVAT® technologies. The company's growing portfolio of IVD and research-use-only (RUO) NGS kits targets tumor profiling, biomarker analysis, and molecular research and monitoring applications. By integrating the strategic perspectives of Christian and Echelard, Pillar Biosciences aims to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving NGS market and enhance its global reach.
In the coming months, Pillar Biosciences will leverage the expertise of its new Board members to scale its operations, accelerate the development of innovative diagnostics, and expand access to advanced NGS-based cancer testing.
