Peak Credit Union and EVPF Partner to Build $1 Million Pickleball Facility
EUGENE, Ore. and LACEY, Wash. – Peak Credit Union and the Emerald Valley Pickleball Foundation (EVPF) have joined forces to support the development of a new regional pickleball facility at Lane Community College. The initiative includes a $500,000 commitment from Peak Credit Union, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by community donations through December 31, up to an additional $500,000. This collaboration aims to raise a total of $1 million for the 24-court complex, which includes two championship courts and 10 covered courts.
The proposed facility, located on land contributed by Lane Community College near Interstate 5, is expected to enhance access to recreation for people of all ages and abilities while serving as a hub for physical health, social connection, and community well-being. The project has garnered significant support, including $500,000 from Lane County voters and $750,000 from the City of Eugene.
Dr. David Tuyo II, CEO of Peak Credit Union, expressed the credit union’s commitment to the community. "Our roots in this community run deep, and becoming Peak hasn't changed that commitment. Rather, it has strengthened our ability to act on it," Tuyo said. "This investment is about creating a place where people can connect, stay active, and belong. By putting $500,000 behind this project and inviting the community to join us, we have an opportunity to turn one investment into something even greater and help build an asset that can serve Lane County for generations."
The facility is expected to address the growing demand for pickleball courts in the Eugene-Springfield area. EVPF reports that the 18 dedicated public courts in the region can see as many as 40 people waiting to play. The proposed complex aims to alleviate this demand while creating capacity for regional tournaments and events. A preliminary analysis by Travel Lane County estimates that a single large regional tournament attracting 600 overnight attendees and 1,500 day attendees could generate approximately $2.5 million in direct business sales and indirect spending, benefiting local businesses.
Joel Halberg, EVPF Board Member, highlighted the importance of the partnership. Through their support and the Peak Community Challenge, every donation, large or small, will be matched, doubling the impact of our community's generosity," Halberg stated.
