SHANGHAI, CHINA, October 20, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- On September 4, 2026, the Paris Judicial Court delivered a significant ruling in favor of Medtrum in its patent dispute with Insulet. The court invalidated five claims of Insulet's European patent EP 2 438 957, rejecting the company's €3.1 million damages claim against Medtrum. This decision comes after a legal battle that began in April 2023, when Insulet filed a patent infringement lawsuit over Medtrum's TouchCare Nano insulin pump in France.

The court's decision was based on a comparison of the patent with earlier published technologies, finding that claims 1 and 3-6 lacked inventive step. In other words, a skilled professional could have reached the same solutions using existing knowledge. As a result, the five claims were ruled invalid in France.

In addition to the patent ruling, the court ordered Insulet to pay Medtrum an initial €50,000 for losses caused by the earlier sales restrictions that stayed in place until the patent expired in September of the same year. Insulet was also ordered to cover Medtrum's court costs and pay the company €150,000 towards its legal expenses.

The case also involved a separate dispute over how Medtrum promoted the TouchCare Nano in France. The court found that certain promotional activities amounted to unfair competition and ordered the Medtrum entities involved to pay Insulet France SAS €50,000 in damages. However, Insulet's requests to remove the related content or impose a broader advertising ban were rejected.

Medtrum, a global leader in diabetes technology, has developed the world's smallest AID system, CGM, and tubeless patch pump. The company's proprietary APGO® advanced closed-loop artificial pancreas algorithm allows for the continuous analysis of real-time glucose data and automatic adjustment of insulin delivery, simplifying diabetes care. Medtrum's products are now available in more than 50 countries and regions and are covered by healthcare reimbursement systems in more than 20 European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the Nordic countries.

This ruling is an important step in a dispute that directly affected Medtrum's TouchCare Nano in France. The company will continue to develop its technologies, including CGM, insulin delivery, and automated insulin delivery, as it expands into more markets.
