ATLANTA, Sept. 03, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Oxford Industries, Inc. (NYSE: OXM) reported its second quarter fiscal 2026 financial results on August 1, 2026, revealing a net sales decline and an adjusted earnings per share (EPS) increase. The company saw consolidated net sales of $394 million, down from $403 million in the same period last year. EPS on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis was $3.25, a significant jump from $1.12 in the prior year, with the current period benefiting from a $2.07 tariff-related refund. On an adjusted basis, EPS stood at $1.34, up from $1.26.
Chairman and CEO Tom Chubb stated, "Our second quarter results matched our expectations, with a notable year-over-year growth in adjusted EPS and a low-single-digit increase in comparable sales at Tommy Bahama. This performance contributed to robust cash flow generation in the first half of the year, enabling us to reduce debt significantly." Chubb further noted, "Despite positive momentum at Tommy Bahama, other parts of our portfolio are experiencing softness, particularly Lilly Pulitzer, due to product and marketing challenges. We are addressing these issues through targeted promotions and a broader review to enhance our long-term earnings power."
Breaking down the financial performance, full-price direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales declined 1% to $289 million. Retail sales of $139 million were 2% lower than the previous year, while e-commerce sales of $150 million remained steady. Food and beverage sales, driven by new locations, increased 11% to $32 million. Outlet sales were comparable at $20 million, and wholesale sales, hit by lower off-price sales, fell 14% to $52 million.
Gross margin improved to 73.8% from 61.4% in the same period last year, primarily due to favorable tariff refunds, updated sourcing and pricing strategies, and changes in sales mix. SG&A expenses were $212 million, up slightly from $209 million, with increases in brick and mortar retail locations, software, and consulting costs.
Royalties and other operating income rose to $7 million from $3 million, largely due to normalized sales from licensing partners. Operating income was $69 million, or 17.4% of net sales, compared to $25 million, or 6.3%, in the prior year. Adjusted operating income was $29 million, or 7.4% of net sales, compared to $28 million, or 7.0%.
Oxford’s balance sheet showed a $20 million decrease in inventory on a last-in, first-out (LIFO) basis, down to $73 million. Cash provided by operations was $97 million, up from $80 million in the first half of the previous year. Borrowings decreased to $73 million from $143 million, reflecting the company’s debt reduction efforts.
For fiscal 2026, Oxford revised its sales and EPS guidance, now expecting net sales in the range of $1.430 billion to $1.470 billion, down from $1.478 billion in 2025. GAAP earnings per share are forecasted to be between $3.07 and $3.47, including $2.07 of tariff refund receivables. Adjusted EPS is projected to be between $1.60 and $2.00, compared to $2.11 in 2025.
Oxford will hold a conference call to discuss these results at 4:30 p.m. ET on August 1, 2026, with a live webcast available on its website. The company plans to reduce capital expenditures to approximately $60 million in 2026, down from $108 million in 2025, due to fewer new store openings and the completion of the new distribution center in Lyons, Georgia. Dividends will continue, with a quarterly cash dividend of $0.70 per share, payable on October 30, 2026, to shareholders of record as of October 16, 2026. Oxford has maintained a consistent dividend policy since its public listing in 1960.
The company is optimistic about its future, despite current challenges, with plans to address operational inefficiencies and enhance long-term earnings. Oxford will continue to navigate the evolving landscape of retail and apparel, with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
