OSCP launches NavigationGate for reliable navigation during GNSS outages

MONTRÉAL, Sept. 1, 2026, OSCP, a Montreal-based company, has launched NavigationGate, an inertial navigation system designed to help platforms maintain their location when satellite signals are lost. This innovation comes amid growing concerns over the reliability of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) in Europe, where up to 38 percent of air traffic now passes through regions with frequent radio-frequency interference.

According to EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, an increasing number of GNSS outages are being reported. In July 2026, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued a revised guidance document addressing the rising severity and impact of these incidents.

In response, OSCP has developed NavigationGate, a processing unit that can transform any of its inertial measurement units (IMUs) into a full inertial navigation system (INS). The new system fuses data from inertial sensors with real-time kinematic (RTK)-compatible GNSS signals and customer-specific aiding sensors. This fusion is computed onboard, providing continuous position, velocity, and attitude data via CAN and RS422 interfaces.

Kazem Zandi, the founder and CEO of OSCP, highlighted the importance of continuity in navigation. "Our customers face a challenge of maintaining accurate position data when GNSS signals are lost," Zandi said. "NavigationGate ensures that this data is available on the board itself, closing the gap in sensor performance."

The company's latest product integrates seamlessly with its MK2 IMU family. The photonic MK2E2 offers tactical-grade accuracy, while the MK2Z provides navigational-grade precision. In a rigorous test, OSCP's photonic IMU demonstrated superior performance when satellite positioning was denied. Over a 21-minute period, the IMU was able to maintain a 5.7-metre distance from the ground truth, compared to 20.5 metres for a MEMS unit under identical aiding conditions.

NavigationGate measures 75.5 by 58.5 by 30 millimeters and operates on a voltage range of 12 to 34 volts. An OEM variant for board-level integration is also available. The device is designed and manufactured in Montreal and is ITAR-free, making it suitable for various applications including space, defence, marine, subsea, rail, robotics, and ground autonomy.
