OSCP Adds ArduPilot Support to MK2 Family IMUs

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 1, 2026, OSCP, a Montreal-based company specializing in photonic gyroscopes and inertial measurement units, has introduced support for ArduPilot across its MK2 family of IMUs. This development is significant for drone builders as it enhances the capabilities of their vehicles, particularly in challenging conditions where satellite navigation is unavailable.

The company unveiled the new ArduPilot driver, which is now available for download at docs.oscp.com. The driver connects any MK2-family unit to an ArduPilot system over standard RS-422 or CAN-FD interfaces, enabling seamless integration. Drone builders can start with the compact MK2M2, a MEMS unit measuring 40 by 40 by 25 millimeters and weighing 75 grams, and progress to the more robust photonic MK2E2, which offers tactical-grade performance.

Kazem Zandi, founder and CEO of OSCP, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting popular platforms. "Drone builders settled on ArduPilot a long time ago, and they were right," Zandi said. "We are not asking anyone to change their autopilot; we are giving the autopilot they already trust a better sense of motion."

The new driver has been tested in challenging scenarios. In a 21-minute road test where satellite positioning was denied, the OSCP photonic IMU performed significantly better than a MEMS unit. The photonic IMU finished 5.7 meters closer to the ground truth compared to the 20.5 meters recorded by the MEMS unit.

Drone stability and accuracy are crucial, especially when satellite navigation is unavailable. The quality of the gyroscope is critical in these situations, as it bounds the drift in those minutes. OSCP’s photonic sensing technology is resilient to vibration, whereas MEMS gyros are g-sensitive and can accrue extra error under vibration and sustained acceleration.

OSCP’s sensors are designed and manufactured in Montreal and are ITAR-free, making them ideal for a wide range of applications where GNSS signals are jammed, degraded, or unavailable. The company’s presence at the Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas from September 1 to 3 offers an opportunity for builders to meet with sales leadership and discuss integration options.
