Orosur Mining Inc., a Canadian mining company operating in Colombia, has announced the discovery of gold mineralization at the El Cedro prospect, marking a significant step in its exploration efforts at the Anzá project. The initial drilling results from the first hole, CED001, have shown promising signs of mineralization from the surface, with a composite intersection of 61.35 meters at 0.93 grams per tonne of gold (g/t Au).
According to the company, the drilling at El Cedro has intersected a cluster of gold/copper porphyry intrusions and associated hydrothermal systems. The first hole, CED001, was positioned on the southeast flank of the northern intrusion, close to the major structures that divide the northern and southern intrusions. The hole was designed to test the flanks of the northern intrusion for potential intrusion-related alteration and to intersect possible down-dip extensions of high-grade vein systems.
The initial results from the first 61.35 meters of drilling have been received, with the entire interval being mineralized. The final sample of this interval returned a higher grade of 1.25 g/t Au. The company noted that the upper part of CED001 has intersected a complex sequence of strongly altered and locally brecciated rocks, displaying evidence of multiple hydrothermal events. Detailed logging has identified brecciated rocks containing porphyritic igneous and host-rock fragments affected by secondary biotite alteration and subsequent quartz-feldspar-related veining.
The geological relationships observed so far indicate a multi-stage intrusive-hydrothermal system, with an early high-temperature alteration event subsequently affected by repeated fracturing, brecciation, silicification, and sulphide-bearing fluid flow. The company is optimistic about the potential for higher-grade mineralization at depth, as the vertical projection of the higher-grade surface veins is interpreted to be potentially intersected at various points deeper in the hole.
Orosur Mining Inc. plans to continue drilling at El Cedro, with two more holes planned to be drilled in different directions from the same pad once CED001 is complete. The company's CEO, Brad George, commented, "Real grassroots discoveries have become very rare in modern times, and we possibly have two so far. This is testament to the geological potential of the Anza Project and Colombia as an exploration destination, but mostly to the talent and dedication of the local team."
The company is currently focused on completing the planned 500-meter depth of CED001, which is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Samples from 61.3 meters to 86 meters have been submitted for assay this week, with results expected in the near term. Further samples, including those from the vein zone, are scheduled to be submitted to the laboratory later this week.
Orosur Mining Inc. remains optimistic about the potential of the Anzá project and the El Cedro prospect, with plans to continue exploring the area to uncover further mineralization. The company's next steps will be to analyze the results from the additional drilling and to determine the next phase of exploration activities.
