OroCarbo Reserves 12 SYNOCA® C-iC Units for Renewable Energy Projects

Haffner Energy, a leading innovator in renewable energy solutions, has announced that OroCarbo, a project developer from California, has secured the reservation of 12 SYNOCA® C-iC units as part of the CORE100 program. This move is set to boost Haffner Energy’s potential revenue by up to 30 million euros.

CORE100 is Haffner Energy’s industrial program aimed at deploying the first 100 standardized C-iC units. Designed to accelerate commercial deployment through standardization and mass production, this program allows clients to reserve production slots for modular units that can be deployed individually or combined to meet larger project needs.

OroCarbo plans to deploy these units in the development of local renewable energy clusters in California, Oregon, and Washington. These projects will convert locally available residual biomass into renewable synthetic gas, primarily for the production of renewable hydrogen for mobility and local electricity generation in areas where grid capacity or reliability is limited.

According to Marcella Franchi, Haffner Energy’s Commercial Director and Sustainable Alternative Fuels (SAF) Manager, "This reservation of 12 units marks a new step with OroCarbo: the deployment of CORE100 in the western United States. Our vision is to produce energy as close as possible to the resources and needs, transforming local biomass into renewable hydrogen and electricity. This is the essence of CORE100: a local, resilient, and scalable energy."

From a single project to a multi-site approach Haffner Energy and OroCarbo began collaborating in 2025 on a 100-ton-per-day biomethanol project in California. The first phase, an independent carbon intensity study, was successfully completed during Haffner Energy’s 2025-2026 financial year, and its results confirmed the strong potential for decarbonization. The project was suspended pending sufficient long-term off-take commitments.

However, the work done opened the door to a broader collaboration between Haffner Energy and OroCarbo, covering multiple applications and sites related to renewable energy. OroCarbo broadened its development strategy towards a portfolio of renewable energy projects addressing various local energy needs. The reservation of 12 C-iC units reflects this transition from a single project to a multi-project and multi-site approach.

A modular platform for hydrogen and electricity Each SYNOCA® C-iC unit is designed to convert residual biomass into renewable synthetic gas using Haffner Energy’s proprietary thermolysis technology. Several units can be connected in parallel depending on the capacity required for each project, while their standardized design facilitates the replication of the model across multiple sites.

For OroCarbo’s projects, the scope of Haffner Energy’s supply will be limited to the SYNOCA® C-iC units and the necessary engineering work to integrate them into the overall installations. Equipment downstream to convert the renewable synthetic gas into hydrogen or electricity will be selected and purchased in the United States. The adaptation and certification of these equipment to applicable U.S. standards are not included in Haffner Energy’s supply scope. This approach aims to facilitate U.S. regulatory compliance, maximize local content and U.S. industrial partnerships, and reduce the impact of import tariffs and transatlantic logistics.

These projects will utilize locally available residual biomass, including forest and agricultural residues. In California, the valorization of forest residues is becoming a significant asset in forest management to mitigate wildfire risk.

12% of CORE100 reserved by a client The OroCarbo reservation encompasses 12 SYNOCA® C-iC units, with a total value of 100,000 euros. Based on the current contractual price of 2.5 million euros per unit, these 12 units represent up to 30 million euros in potential revenue for Haffner Energy.

The CORE100 program continues to progress. Although Haffner Energy has no intention of communicating individually on each reservation, the company will provide a comprehensive update on the program soon.
