Onkos Surgical Launches NanoCept Antibacterial Technology for Total Femoral Replacements

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J., Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Onkos Surgical has expanded its line of antibacterial implants with the launch of the ELEOSTM Total Femoral Adapter, featuring NanoCept® Antibacterial Technology. This new product is designed to provide enhanced protection against bacterial infections for patients undergoing total femoral replacement, a complex and high-risk orthopaedic procedure.

Since its introduction in December 2024, the NanoCept Antibacterial Technology has been available on ELEOS implant midsections used in complex knee and hip reconstructions. More than 500 patients have already benefited from these implants, which have demonstrated a 99.999% (5-log reduction) kill rate of bacteria commonly found in operating rooms.

The ELEOS Total Femoral Adapter with NanoCept is the first product to be produced and coated at Onkos Surgical's newly opened NanoCept Innovation Center in Bridgewater, New Jersey. This move marks a significant milestone in the company's efforts to expand access to NanoCept across its broader ELEOS product portfolio.

Dr. Julia Visgauss, Chief of the Orthopaedic Oncology Division at Duke Health, expressed her enthusiasm for the new technology. "It is incredibly reassuring to know that patients requiring a total femoral replacement will now have access to antibacterial implants. Total femurs are among the most complex procedures we perform, and many of the patients who require them are already immunocompromised," she said.

Dr. Visgauss, who is also an investigator in a post-market study of NanoCept and has been a consultant for Onkos, added, "Anything we can do to reduce risk and improve outcomes can make a meaningful difference in their recovery and quality of life. The NanoCept Antibacterial Technology received De Novo market authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2024 for use with the ELEOS™ Limb Salvage System. Pre-clinical testing showed that the technology can significantly reduce bacteria in the operating room environment, though its clinical impact on infection prevention has not been fully evaluated in human studies.
