OneDose Launches Controlled Substance Tracking for EMS Agencies

OneDose, an AI-driven EMS platform, has launched OneDose Narcotics, a new feature that integrates controlled substance tracking directly into the protocol workflow. This innovation addresses the stringent recordkeeping requirements set by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) since March 9, 2026, under the rule 21 CFR 1304.27. The rule mandates that EMS agencies document every controlled substance dose with specific details, including the drug, its form, the date, the amount given, the amount disposed of, and the method of disposal, among other critical information.

The new feature aims to streamline the process by eliminating the need for medics to manually record doses after a call. Instead, the dose confirmation during the administration process automatically writes the controlled substance record. This includes marking waste, which is already filled in, and recording the method of disposal. A crew partner or a hospital nurse can confirm the waste with their PIN, ensuring accuracy and accountability.

OneDose Narcotics operates through a series of kits, each containing a count for every controlled substance. Every action, such as administration, waste, and shift counts, updates the kit's ledger in real-time. Corrections are added as new entries, maintaining the integrity of the record. The system also supports voice logging through the OneDose AI Assistant, allowing medics to log doses and waste during the return to the station, with confirmation required before saving.

For administrators, OneDose Narcotics offers a centralized platform for managing records. Supervisors can view every custody event, kit balances, and par levels. The system also includes a review queue for count variances, unwitnessed wastes, and records that fall below the agency's signature policy. The console prepares the necessary paperwork, including the DEA Form 106 worksheet and the Form 41 destruction log, for agencies to file.

OneDose supports over 4,000 EMS agencies across 40 states, unifying protocols, dosing support, documentation, and real-time clinical tools into a single workflow. This integration empowers emergency clinicians to deliver faster, safer, and more accurate care, even in unpredictable conditions. By keeping the custody record at the moment of care, OneDose ensures that medics do not have to write down the dose again at the end of their shift.

The launch of OneDose Narcotics marks a significant step in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of controlled substance tracking in EMS agencies. It not only meets the DEA's recordkeeping requirements but also streamlines the workflow, reducing the potential for human error. As the platform continues to evolve, it aims to further improve the safety and effectiveness of emergency medical services.
