Ocumetics Launches Next Phase of Clinical Study in Mexico City

Ocumetics Technology Corp., a Canadian company developing advanced vision correction solutions, has announced the initiation of patient recruitment for Group Two of its ongoing human clinical study. The study, set to take place in Mexico City, aims to evaluate the safety and performance of the company’s next-generation accommodating intraocular lens, with a particular focus on distance and near vision.

The clinical facility in Mexico City, which successfully performed Group One surgeries in the fall of 2025, has begun the process of identifying and recruiting eligible patients. The surgeries are targeted for the fall of 2026. Dean Burns, President and CEO of Ocumetics, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming study, stating, "We are extremely excited to begin the process of moving into our larger Group Two study. This represents another important milestone in the continued clinical development of the Ocumetics Lens."

Unlike Group One, which focused solely on safety, the primary and secondary purposes of the Group Two surgeries are to study the safety, distance, and near vision performance of the new Ocumetics accommodating intraocular lens. The next-generation lens will be delivered using the company's enhanced lens delivery system, which is designed to improve the implantation process.

Group One patients have continued to be followed as part of the company’s ongoing clinical evaluation. Twelve-month follow-up visits, which are an important study milestone, are currently in progress. These visits are providing the company with valuable longer-term clinical data. Burns added, "The Group One outcomes met and exceeded our expectations regarding the safety, performance, and handling of the Ocumetics Lens. This data will be instrumental in guiding the next phase of our research and development."

The Ocumetics Lens is designed to allow the eye’s natural muscle activity to shift focus from distance to near, providing clear vision at all distances without the need for glasses or contact lenses. This technology aims to eliminate the need for corrective lenses, enhancing the quality of life for patients seeking improved vision.
