SAN DIEGO, Oct. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- NueCell Bio, a company that helps advance cell therapies from scientific discovery to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) readiness, has joined the Industry Resource Partnership (IRP) Program of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). This move positions NueCell Bio as a resource for CIRM-funded researchers and companies, supporting them in the translational and clinical-stage development of their programs.

Founded in 2004, CIRM is a state agency created by California voters to accelerate stem cell and gene therapies for people with unmet medical needs. Since its inception, CIRM has been entrusted with $8.5 billion to support promising discoveries through clinical trials, train a regenerative medicine workforce, strengthen the state's biotechnology economy, and expand access to transformative treatments. According to CIRM’s own figures, the agency has funded more than 1,400 projects, attracted over $38 billion in follow-on industry investment, and counts more than 50 companies with roots in CIRM-funded work.

NueCell Bio’s role in the IRP Program is to bring biology-led bioprocessing expertise to CIRM-funded programs, particularly those at the translational stage between the research lab and the GMP suite. The company’s 26,300-square-foot facility in Sorrento Valley supports a wide range of cell therapy programs, including autologous and allogeneic therapies derived from immune cells, stem cells, and pluripotent stem cells. This includes iPSC-derived products and other advanced modalities, with a focus on moving from 2D to 3D culture and scaling in bioreactors to preserve cell biology and differentiation.

Michael Wourms, CEO of NueCell Bio, emphasized the importance of early-stage decisions in the development process.

NueCell Bio’s proprietary technology stack platform, NueStack™, combines integrated technology layers from iPSC development and gene editing to analytics, manufacturing readiness, and technology transfer, tailored to each program’s needs. The company works on a fee-for-service model, from design and development through CMC and technology transfer to GMP manufacturing. It holds no downstream manufacturing capacity of its own, ensuring its advice on manufacturing strategy carries no commercial interest in the answer.

Through this partnership, NueCell Bio aims to support the development of complex cell therapy programs, ensuring that they are manufacturable, analytically robust, and of high quality. The company’s expertise will be crucial in helping CIRM-funded programs navigate the critical design decisions that determine their success in the translational and clinical stages.
