PRETORIA, South Africa, Nov. 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- NTL Healthcare, a company with a history dating back to 1996, has proposed a partnership with South African healthcare institutions to implement its AI-powered cervical cancer screening solution. This initiative was presented at the 2026 Korea-South Africa Future Dialogue, a significant event focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to advance public health cooperation between the two nations.
The event explored the potential of AI in addressing public health challenges, with a particular emphasis on cervical cancer screening.
David Malcomson, Acting Deputy Director-General for Asia and the Middle East at South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation, proposed collaboration on public health AI, digital literacy, youth skills, and joint training. He highlighted the importance of these initiatives in advancing public health outcomes in South Africa.
This solution, which has been deployed in more than 20 countries, operates offline and analyzes images in approximately five seconds. According to a 2024 Scientific Reports study, CerviCARE AI demonstrated 98% sensitivity for high-grade lesions, making it a reliable tool for cervical cancer screening.
Byun emphasized that CerviCARE AI could support assessment, referral, treatment, and follow-up after positive HPV results without replacing HPV testing or clinical judgment. The company proposed local clinical validation, hospital pilots, and discussions with South African authorities on regulatory and commercialization pathways. He stressed the importance of building local evidence with healthcare professionals to ensure sustainable adoption.
Barry Kistnasamy, Hyunchul Kim, Zodwa Dlamini, Thulo Molefi, Chanhyung Lee, and Andries Vorster, among other speakers, discussed public health priorities, AI diagnostics, automated documentation, and tuberculosis and lung disease screening. These discussions underscored the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to improving public health outcomes through innovative technologies.
NTL Healthcare plans to expand its Latin American healthcare and distribution network following commercialization in Paraguay. The company is committed to working with South African partners to tailor a model that aligns with the country's priorities. Byun thanked the Korea-Africa Foundation for fostering bilateral public health dialogue and reaffirmed NTL's dedication to practical solutions in the field of healthcare.
This proposed cooperation marks a significant step in leveraging AI to enhance cervical cancer screening in South Africa, potentially saving lives and improving public health outcomes.
