CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 16, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- NOVONIX Limited and ACP Technologies, LLC have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering the domestic supply chain for battery-grade anode materials in North America. The collaboration, formalized through a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU), seeks to develop a fully domestic anode material supply chain, addressing a critical gap in the U.S. market.

NOVONIX, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, specializes in producing high-performance synthetic graphite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, serving energy storage, electric vehicles, industrial, and defense markets. The company's expansion into the U.S. market has been driven by the need for a resilient and secure supply chain, particularly in the context of energy independence and national security.

ACPT, a U.S.-based technology company, develops proprietary processes for converting low-value petroleum-derived feedstocks into engineered carbon precursors. These processes are used to produce high-value pitch material, which is a critical input for battery manufacturing and advanced materials applications. ACPT's technology is particularly relevant in the defense and energy sectors, as it supports the development of domestic critical materials supply chains.

Under the terms of the MOU, NOVONIX and ACPT will collaborate on several key projects, including the development of synthetic graphite anode active material (AAM), the mass production process, and the advancement of proprietary technologies. The partnership aims to produce materials that can support process validation and customer sampling, thereby enhancing the performance of new markets and advancing the qualification and commercialization of new domestic feedstocks and precursor materials for AAM production.

Kevin Mulrenin, President of ACPT, echoed Kreafle's sentiments, highlighting the complementary nature of the partnership.

The collaboration is expected to yield significant benefits, including the development of new materials that can support the fast-charging capabilities of batteries and the expansion of NOVONIX's product portfolio to include pitch-coated synthetic graphite anode active material. This new product class is particularly relevant for applications such as drones for military use, where fast-charging capabilities are crucial.

The partnership also aims to address the limited viable U.S.-based alternatives for anode materials, a gap that ACPT is working to fill. By leveraging ACPT's proprietary processes and NOVONIX's expertise in synthetic graphite and anode materials, the companies hope to accelerate the development and commercialization of a competitive North American supply chain for battery-grade graphite.
