FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The book, published by Rodin Books and Barnes & Noble College (BNC), aims to benefit student scholarships and research at the university.
Hanbury, who retired as NSU’s president and CEO in 2025, shares his six decades of leadership experience in higher education, local government, and civic service. The book, a blend of memoir and leadership guide, highlights the principles of transformational leadership, including humility, courage, integrity, and community. Hanbury’s leadership framework is designed to strengthen organizations, inspire trust, and create lasting impact.
Hanbury served as NSU’s sixth president and led the university’s advancement over two decades to Carnegie R1 research status. Under his leadership, NSU refocused its mission, vision, and core values to guide the institution toward preeminence in higher education, research, student and employee diversity, and community service. During his tenure, NSU set undergraduate enrollment records, elevated its academic stature, and raised more than $1 billion in research and philanthropic support.
Hanbury’s distinguished career also included leadership roles in local government, where he helped guide transformative initiatives in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Va., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was named South Florida Business Journal’s Ultimate CEO in 2020 and received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council, and the 2019 Guy Harvey Conservation Award.
