Northern Shield Discovers Porphyry Copper at Creston Target in Newfoundland

Northern Shield Resources Inc. has announced the discovery of a copper-bearing feldspar porphyry dike, known as the Creston Discovery, at its flagship Root & Cellar Property on the Burin Peninsula of eastern Newfoundland. This discovery marks a significant step in the company’s exploration efforts, as it is the first porphyry-hosted copper identified on the property and, to the best of the company’s knowledge, on the Burin Peninsula.

The Creston Discovery, located at the Creston Target, returned a composite rock sample assaying 0.31% copper. The copper mineralization is characterized by very fine-grained disseminated chalcocite, barely visible to the naked eye. The mineralization is confined to an interpreted intermediate diorite to monzodiorite porphyry, with the remainder of the outcrop being non-mineralized reddened basalt and diatreme breccia. This finding is particularly noteworthy as it is the first of its kind on the property, potentially signaling the presence of a larger, deeper porphyry system.

In addition to the Creston Discovery, follow-up prospecting approximately 700 meters southwest of the initial find has located additional copper mineralization in a quarry. This new occurrence includes chalcopyrite-bornite veins over narrow widths along the contact of a second, narrow, similar-looking feldspar porphyry dike. The veins are accompanied by disseminated chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite, and native copper distributed pervasively through the dike, the adjacent diatreme breccia, and a rhyolite porphyry. The margins of the chalcopyrite-bornite veins also exhibit distinct reddening, and the near-absence of pyrite suggests that the copper is hypogene in nature.

The tellurium content of the samples from the Creston Discovery also shows promise, with anomalous tellurium levels up to 11.6 parts per million (ppm). Tellurium is a pathfinder element commonly associated with fertile alkalic copper-gold systems, lending further support to the alkalic to sub-alkalic porphyry interpretation and providing an additional vectoring tool for exploration.

Northern Shield Resources Inc. is planning a phased program to advance the porphyry copper found at the Creston Discovery. The near-term work will include mechanical trenching downslope of the Creston outcrop to expose and selectively sample the mineralized porphyry and test its continuity toward the stronger chargeability response. This surface work is intended to refine and prioritize targets for a planned maiden drilling program at Creston, designed to test the IP-1 target and the interpreted larger body at depth. Drilling will also test the copper occurrence in the quarry.

The exploration plans for the Root & Cellar Property are expected to continue with the goal of determining the grade and scale of the copper mineralization. The company is optimistic about the potential for a significant discovery and is committed to advancing the project through a combination of surface work and drilling.

Samples were analyzed by ALS Global in Vancouver, BC, for gold by fire assay with ICP-AES finish (Au-ICP22) and multi-elements by four acid digestion and ICP-MS finish (ME-MS61). All standards and duplicates meet targeted values. The technical information in this news release has been reviewed and approved by Mike Muggridge, P.
