NioBay Metals hosts elected officials for Crevier Project update
MONTRÉAL, Sept. 01, 2026 – NioBay Metals Inc., a company focused on the development of critical and strategic minerals, recently hosted a group of elected officials from the Maria-Chapdelaine Regional County Municipality (RCM) for an informative visit to its Crevier Project site. The event, held on Monday, August 31, aimed to update local leaders on the project's progress and its potential economic benefits for the region.
The visit was attended by mayors from seven municipalities—Girardville, Saint-Thomas-Didyme, Normandin, Péribonka, Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc, Saint-Eugène-d’Argentenay, and Saint-Stanislas—as well as the Prefect of the Maria-Chapdelaine RCM, Jean Morency. Other participants included senior management from the RCM, economic development advisors, and a municipal councillor from the City of Dolbeau-Mistassini.
NioBay’s President and CEO expressed the company’s pride in engaging with local leadership. Prefect Morency highlighted the importance of mining development for the RCM, noting, "Mining can play a crucial role in economic diversification. Our visit to the Crevier Project allowed us to see the company’s commitment to local economic benefits and environmental stewardship."
The Crevier Project, located in Québec on the Nitassinan (ancestral territory) of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation, has garnered attention due to its potential to supply critical and strategic minerals. NioBay holds an 80.2% interest in the project, alongside other properties, including the James Bay Niobium Project in Ontario.
Niobium, a key mineral at the heart of the Crevier Project, is valued for its unique properties, such as its ductility, malleability, and corrosion resistance. It is widely used in the Mobility, Structural, and Energy sectors to enhance material efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. Tantalum, another critical mineral, is used in electronic components and surgical implants due to its non-reactive properties.
