HOUSTON and OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 13, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Nightpeak Energy has successfully brought its Bocanova 2 battery storage project online, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion of its energy portfolio. The 150 MW, two-hour duration project, which began commercial operation on September 17, has doubled the Bocanova site's capacity to 300 MW, adding substantial flexibility to the ERCOT grid as data centers and other large loads continue to drive rapid growth in electricity demand.
This project is the second phase of Nightpeak Energy's battery storage development in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first phase, Bocanova 1, began commercial operation in August 2025. Bocanova 2 utilizes Tesla's Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems, which are designed to provide reliable and efficient energy storage solutions for the grid.
The project was financed through a tax equity bridge loan and construction-to-term loan with MUFG Bank, with U.S. Bank providing traditional tax equity. The project's successful financial close and commercial operation are a testament to Nightpeak Energy's commitment to meeting the growing demand for energy in the U.S. market.
Nightpeak Energy's CEO, Paris Hays, expressed gratitude for the support received from the City of Alvin, Brazoria County, and the local community.
Since its founding in 2022, Nightpeak Energy has developed and acquired a portfolio of over 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity, spanning gas-fired generation, battery storage, and powered land development. The company continues to advance an additional pipeline of flexible generation and large-load projects to meet growing demand in the U.S. market.
