Upright began her journey with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), where she started as a tester and inspector. Over the years, she advanced to project manager roles, overseeing multimillion-dollar projects. Her experience spans various critical tasks, including roadway and bridge reconstruction, project budgeting, inspections, materials testing coordination, and team supervision. Notably, she managed a 30-mile resurfacing and realignment project that involved 160,000 tons of asphalt. Additionally, she played a crucial role in overseeing the reconstruction of bridges following Colorado's 2013 flooding, a significant event that tested her leadership and resilience.

Beyond her project management responsibilities, Upright has been a strong advocate for inclusivity and mentorship in the construction industry. She was a founding member and served as president of Women of Asphalt Colorado for five years, fostering a supportive environment for women in the field. A graduate of Colorado State University with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Upright has consistently focused on excellence, resilience, and inclusion throughout her career.
