STOCKHOLM, Oct. 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Moberg Pharma AB has announced the publication of new analyses in the Journal of Fungi, demonstrating the potent antifungal activity of terbinafine against dermatophytes causing onychomycosis. The study, which evaluated the efficacy of MOB-015, a novel topical treatment for onychomycosis, showed promising results across a wide range of baseline terbinafine susceptibility.
The analyses are based on data from the North American Phase 3 study, which involved daily treatment with MOB-015 for 48 weeks. The study included 506 dermatophyte isolates from onychomycosis patients. Only 3.2% of the baseline isolates showed elevated MIC values (≥0.5 µg/ml). Among MOB-015-treated patients with evaluable end-of-study results, 74.3% achieved mycological cure, including two of three patients with elevated baseline MIC values.
MOB-015 is a novel topical treatment for onychomycosis with market approval in 14 countries. Phase 3 clinical trials involving more than 800 patients indicate that the product has the potential to become the future market leader in onychomycosis.
The work was conducted in collaboration with Professor Mahmoud Ghannoum at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The analyses included a comprehensive evaluation of the terbinafine susceptibility of dermatophytes, highlighting the broad spectrum of activity of the drug. The study's findings underscore the importance of maintaining effective antifungal treatments in the face of increasing resistance.
The publication of these findings comes at a time when the global burden of onychomycosis is increasing, with millions of people affected worldwide. The results of this study provide a strong scientific foundation for the continued development and potential market expansion of MOB-015.
