WASHINGTON, Sept. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The National Bank of Yemen (NBY), Yemen's oldest and largest state-owned commercial bank, has rolled out a comprehensive compliance training program to all 950 of its employees across 25 branches. This initiative follows a significant emphasis on compliance standards in the region's financial sector, particularly in light of the growing importance of cross-border payment channels and global trade.

According to Dr. Ahmed Ali Omar Bin Sanker, the General Manager of NBY, "Investing in our people matters." The training program, developed by the Institute for Financial Integrity (IFI), aims to provide employees with a shared foundation in financial crime risk management and cross-border payment standards. The program includes a library of expert-led videos and live training sessions facilitated by subject matter experts, along with compliance tools and education resources via IFI's DOLFIN platform.

NBY has long been a key player in Yemen's economic and social development, maintaining correspondent banking relationships that connect the country to the global financial system. This latest move underscores the bank's commitment to maintaining high standards of compliance and supporting the broader financial integrity efforts in the region.

Natalie Pulsifer, Senior Director of Client Services at IFI, highlighted the significance of the training program, stating, "NBY is one of the longest-standing banks in Yemen, and the scale of this rollout reflects a significant commitment to compliance capacity building."

The training program is designed to cover a range of critical areas, including the counter-illicit finance mission, emerging threats, preventive measures, enforcement, culture of compliance, cross-border payments, foreign correspondent onboarding, and trade finance. This comprehensive approach is intended to equip NBY's workforce with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the increasingly complex cross-border payment landscape.

IFI, founded to empower institutions in protecting the global financial system from illicit use, provides both in-person training and online education, testing, and certifications through its proprietary DOLFIN platform. The scale of the training rollout at NBY underscores the bank's dedication to maintaining and enhancing its compliance capabilities.

Established in 1969, NBY has grown to become a key player in Yemen's financial landscape, operating 25 branches in 10 major cities in Yemen and a branch on the Isle of Socotra. As a provider of retail and corporate banking services as well as trade finance, NBY remains committed to international quality standards and the betterment of Yemen's society and economy.

The National Bank of Yemen's decision to implement a wide-ranging compliance training program is a testament to its commitment to maintaining high standards of financial integrity and supporting the broader efforts to protect the global financial system.
