Nanoscope Therapeutics to Present Long-Term MCO-010 Data at Retina Society Meeting

Nanoscope Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapies for vision restoration, will present groundbreaking data at the 59th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Retina Society. The company’s Director of Clinical Research and Retinal Genetics, Dr. Christine Kay, will deliver a presentation on the long-term efficacy of MCO-010, a one-time, in-office, intravitreal optogenetic gene therapy, at the meeting in Los Angeles.
The data presented will focus on the durability of patient benefits observed in the RESTORE Phase 2b/3 trial, which has shown that patients treated with MCO-010 continue to maintain visual acuity gains long after treatment.
MCO-010, known as MOGENRY®, is built on Nanoscope's multi-characteristic opsin (MCO) technology. This proprietary technology uses a genetically engineered synthetic opsin to enhance light sensitivity and fast kinetics, making surviving bipolar retinal cells directly light-sensitive. This enables the use of the remaining visual circuitry following photoreceptor loss. Unlike other treatments, MOGENRY® does not require genetic testing, invasive surgery, or repeat dosing, and is designed to be administered within existing retina office workflows.
The RESTORE Phase 2b/3 trial, which has already shown positive results, has been accepted and filed by the FDA for a Biologics License Application (BLA). If approved, MOGENRY® has the potential to become the standard of care for patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a progressive degenerative disease that leads to blindness. The company has also demonstrated promising results in the STARLIGHT Phase 2 clinical trial of MCO-010 in Stargardt disease (SD) and plans to initiate a Phase 3 registrational trial in 2026.
MCO-010 has received various designations from regulatory bodies, including Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations for both RP and SD, and RMAT designation for SD. Additionally, the therapy has received Orphan designations from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for non-syndromic and syndromic rod- and cone-dominant dystrophies, as well as macular dystrophies. In Japan, MCO-010 has received Sakigake and Orphan designations for inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs), and an Orphan designation in Saudi Arabia.
