Nanexa and Novo Nordisk Enter Global Collaboration Agreement

UPPSALA, Sweden, Sept. 25, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Nanexa AB, a Swedish drug delivery platform company specializing in long-acting injectable drugs based on its proprietary PharmaShell® technology platform, has entered into a global exclusive license and collaboration agreement with Novo Nordisk, a global leader in diabetes and obesity treatments. The agreement grants Novo Nordisk a global exclusive license to use Nanexa’s PharmaShell® technology platform for certain therapeutic peptide drugs in indications including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other cardiometabolic diseases.

Under the terms of the agreement, Novo Nordisk will lead the global development and commercialization of up to five development programs, each of which will utilize Nanexa’s PharmaShell® technology platform to create long-acting injectable formulations. The collaboration includes development of long-acting injectable formulations with different administration-frequency profiles, with monthly and quarterly administration as target profiles. Nanexa is eligible to receive up to EUR 1.165 billion in total payments, including an upfront payment of EUR 615 million and development and regulatory milestones. In addition, Nanexa is eligible to receive low single-digit royalties on future product sales. The collaboration brings together Nanexa’s PharmaShell® technology platform, which is based on atomic layer deposition (ALD), and Novo Nordisk’s expertise in obesity and type 2 diabetes treatments.

The collaboration is intended to support the development of differentiated long-acting injectable drugs with the potential to reduce dosing frequency and improve the treatment experience for people living with chronic metabolic or cardiovascular diseases. Nanexa’s PharmaShell® technology platform, which is based on atomic layer deposition (ALD), is designed to enable controlled and sustained release of active pharmaceutical ingredients through an ultra-thin inorganic coating applied to individual drug particles. The collaboration is expected to bring together Nanexa’s unique ALD technology with Novo Nordisk’s expertise in obesity and type 2 diabetes treatments, leading to the development of innovative long-acting injectable drugs.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for both companies, as it brings together Nanexa’s proprietary PharmaShell® technology platform with Novo Nordisk’s expertise in obesity and type 2 diabetes treatments. The collaboration is expected to result in the development of differentiated long-acting injectable drugs with the potential to reduce dosing frequency and improve the treatment experience for people living with chronic metabolic or cardiovascular diseases. This agreement further strengthens the external validation of PharmaShell® as a broadly applicable drug delivery platform, providing a strong foundation for expanding the platform into additional therapeutic areas and selectively advancing additional internal programs towards clinical proof of concept.
