Managed Medical Review Organization (MMRO) has earned the Artificial Intelligence in Health Care Accreditation (Version 1.0) from URAC, the nation’s leading independent health care accreditation organization. This achievement marks MMRO’s commitment to responsible AI governance and clinical integrity.
NOVI, Mich., Sept. 4, 2026, Over the past year, MMRO has developed a robust AI governance program, implementing policies, risk assessments, and testing and training requirements in line with URAC’s stringent standards. The program, overseen by Jen Mongeau, MMRO’s Vice President of Clinical Programs, ensures that any new AI technology is evaluated for its impact on data security and clinical excellence.
Douglas Minke, MMRO’s Vice President of Corporate Development and General Counsel, expressed pride in the team’s efforts. "This accreditation was the result of a full year of preparation and hard work. Our governance program now provides a clear framework to ensure that new AI technology protects the information we review and the people we serve, while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence."
According to Minke, AI solutions will be used to aid in the efficient and accurate provision of services to clients, but will not replace regulatory or legal review, nor act as an autonomous decisionmaker for adverse actions. "AI technology will enhance our operations, but it will never compromise the clinical quality and security we uphold," he emphasized.
The new accreditation builds on MMRO’s existing URAC accreditation as an Independent Review Organization (IRO), which it has maintained for over 15 years. This dual accreditation underscores MMRO’s dedication to quality and compliance in the healthcare sector.
Joe Schimizzi, President and CEO of MMRO, stated, "Growth Through Quality is not just a motto; it is how we make decisions. Our organization reflects the expertise, care, and commitment of our staff. Obtaining this AI accreditation from URAC ensures that as we integrate AI technology, clinical quality remains our top priority."
MMRO, headquartered in Novi, Michigan, offers independent medical review services through a network of licensed physicians and clinical professionals. The organization is committed to timely, defensible, and clinically sound reviews with a focus on security, compliance, and service excellence.
