Missouri American Water Acquires Neosho's Water and Wastewater Systems

Missouri American Water has completed the acquisition of the City of Neosho's water and wastewater systems, marking a significant expansion of its service area and infrastructure investment.

The company acquired the systems for $34.5 million, adding approximately 5,400 water and 5,400 wastewater customers to its network. In addition, 25 employees from Neosho will join Missouri American Water, bringing their expertise to the new service area.

The agreement, approved by the Neosho City Council on August 19, 2025, and the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) on June 24, 2026, underscores Missouri American Water’s commitment to delivering safe, clean, reliable, and affordable water and wastewater services. The company plans to invest approximately $35 million over the next five years to upgrade the systems, focusing on facility improvements, replacement of water and wastewater mains, and the integration of technology for improved operational efficiency and compliance with federal and state standards.

"Neosho's decision to sell the water and wastewater systems was driven by the need to ensure long-term maintenance and improvement of these critical services," said Neosho Mayor Tom Workman. "We believe that this acquisition will benefit our community by providing experienced utility operations and planned infrastructure improvements, ensuring continued safe and reliable service."

Residents will have access to enhanced customer service benefits, including online account management and billing information. The company also offers assistance through its H20 Help to Others program for qualifying customers needing financial support.
