OTTAWA, Canada, Oct. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Mission Control has been selected to provide critical wireless communications technology for the upcoming Rashid Rover 2 mission, part of the Emirates Lunar Mission. The rover, set to be delivered by Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander in 2027, will explore the far side of the Moon. The mission, a collaboration between Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United States, aims to study the Moon's geographic features, surface and thermal properties, and the behavior of lunar dust.

The Rashid Rover 2, developed by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), will host multiple science instruments. These instruments are designed to investigate the interaction of different materials with the lunar surface, including adhesion and abrasion effects, and to study plasma activity near the lunar surface. The rover will also collect valuable data to improve our understanding of lunar dust behavior and to guide the design and development of future missions and technologies for operating on the Moon's surface.

Mission Control's contribution to this mission marks its fourth involvement in a lunar rover project. The company previously supported the Rashid Rover 1 mission, launched aboard the ispace Hakuto-R lander in 2022, and is currently preparing for another rover mission in development, BEACON, a joint demonstration with Astrobotic Technology Inc. Mission Control's surface communications solution, originally developed with support from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), is designed to enable reliable, high-performance wireless communications on the lunar surface, even in the most demanding conditions.

Dr. Michele Faragalli, Chief Technology Officer at Mission Control, expressed pride in the company's role in the mission.

The mission is part of a broader effort to enhance international cooperation in space exploration. Mission Control's involvement in the Rashid Rover 2 mission underscores its commitment to enabling exploration through cutting-edge software and communications systems. The company's technology will play a key role in enabling real-time connectivity between the rover and its supporting infrastructure, a vital capability on the Moon's far side.

The collaboration between Mission Control, MBRSC, and Firefly Aerospace highlights the importance of international partnerships in space exploration. The mission is expected to provide valuable insights into the Moon's surface environment and contribute to the development of technologies for future lunar missions.
