The recent auction by Milestone Auctions has brought to light a series of historically significant items that have captured the attention of collectors and enthusiasts alike. The sale included a silver-hilted Revolutionary War sword carried by Capt. Isaac Hall, leader of the 'Medford Minutemen,' on his 1775 march to Lexington. The sword, which was gifted to Hall by John Fulton, a member of the Sons of Liberty and participant in the Boston Tea Party, was sold for $5,166, nearly double its estimated value of $1,500 to $2,500.

Another top seller was a fearsome World War I US Model 1918 "knuckle-duster" trench knife, which was made by Henry Disston & Sons and marked H. D. & S. on its handle. The trench knife, with its solid-brass handle and spiked knuckle-guards, was sold for $5,289 against an estimate of $2,500 to $3,500. The knife's solid credentials as a reliable wartime tool, as well as its historical significance, contributed to its strong performance at the auction.

The auction also featured a World War II US Army 60th Infantry Regiment M1 combat helmet, which was painted on both sides with the legendary unit's "Go Devils" insignia. This helmet, which nearly doubled its high estimate, was sold for $4,920. The helmet's high estimate was reached after it was found to have legitimate combat and field use, adding significant character and presence to the item.

Among the other top sellers was a Randall (Springfield, Mass.) Model 1 fighting knife, crafted with a clip point, brass crossguard, stacked leather handle, and a blade stamped RANDALL MADE / SPFLD. MASS. The knife, in excellent condition with its original leather sheath, surpassed its $1,000 to $1,500 estimate, settling at $3,276.

The sale also included a very rare World War II shoulder sleeve patch with insignia from 555 MP Co., Sugamo Prison in Japan. The patch, sourced from an American war veteran, bore the grim image of a hangman's noose stitched in bullion thread with 555 at the top and crossed pistols at the bottom. The patch sold above its estimate range, for $3,600.

The auction, which focused on items from the American Revolution, World War I, and World War II, provided a vivid glimpse into the battles and events of these tumultuous periods in American history. The sale of these historically significant items underscores the importance of preserving and sharing these artifacts with the public, as Milestone Auctions' co-owner and principal auctioneer, Miles King, noted.

Milestone Auctions, a company dedicated to military and edged weapons, continues to offer a platform for collectors to acquire and appreciate these historically significant items.
