Midas Donates Nine Vehicles for 9/11 Anniversary

Midas International, one of the world's largest providers of automotive services, honored the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by donating nine vehicles as part of its Project Spark initiative. This donation marks the largest in the company's history, providing reliable transportation to 11 individuals and families in need, including first responders, veterans, and 9/11 first responder families.

Since 2018, Midas' Project Spark initiative has been refurbishing and donating hundreds of vehicles across the United States and Canada. The program aims to address the issue of reliable transportation, which affects nearly one in five adults in the U.S., according to a University of Michigan report. This initiative by Midas not only provides essential mobility but also offers freedom and independence to recipients.

Among the recipients was Brian Ellerson, whose grandfather was a firefighter who responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11. "Project Spark is giving me more than a reliable vehicle, it's giving me freedom, independence, and the opportunity to keep moving forward," Ellerson said. He added, "I've worked hard to get where I am today, and this donation will make it much easier for me to get to my college classes."

The initiative also benefited Jaleesa Olson, a single mother of two, and Tabatha Foster, a nurse turned NYPD officer who is a single mother of three. William Heerema, a US Marine Corps Veteran and volunteer firefighter, was another recipient. "Reliable transportation is about so much more than just getting from one place to another. It means being able to get to school and work, greater independence, and importantly, peace of mind," stated Jillian Crane, President and CEO of First Responders Children's Foundation.

Midas partnered with the First Responders Children's Foundation, Voices Center for Resilience, and the New Jersey State Firefighter's Association to identify the recipients. The company worked with organizations like 1-800-Charity Cars and NAPA Auto Parts to ensure the donated vehicles were in good condition. Midas franchisees, including Peter Fonseca of Fonseca Group and Hilda Zaidan of Midas of Paramus, NJ, contributed their expertise and labor to the refurbishment process.

The vehicles donated through Project Spark underwent necessary repairs, including the installation of new tires by Mavis Tire, completing required inspections, and performing oil changes. "Project Spark is an extension of our commitment to the community, and it's rewarding to see the positive impact it has on the lives of those in need."
