VIENNA and NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Metropolitan Opera has launched a groundbreaking initiative called "Opera for All," aiming to introduce the world of opera to new audiences in New York City. This initiative, announced on September 24 by the Met and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is set to significantly expand the Met's outreach efforts.

At the heart of "Opera for All" is a new app that serves as the exclusive digital channel for the initiative. The app, powered by Vienna-based easy-connect, offers a secure lottery system for ticket distribution, complete with digital ID verification and mobile ticketing. In the first 10 days of the launch, the app saw over 100,000 new downloads, with approximately 89 percent of the registrants being new to the Met's database.

The lottery mechanism is designed to make it easy for New Yorkers to discover the Met. To participate, individuals must verify their residency by uploading a photo of their ID, enter the lottery for an eligible performance, and receive notifications via email and push notifications. If they win, tickets are sent directly to the app. The first draw took place on September 28, and the process is built on the Lottery Mechanism that has been used for the Met's digital rush-ticket lottery since 2024.

Gillian Brierley, Chief Audiences, Marketing, and Communications Officer at the Metropolitan Opera, highlighted the importance of the app in reaching new audiences.

The initiative is ambitious, with the Met planning to release 10,000 tickets each month throughout the 2026-27 season. These tickets will be distributed across every section of the house, and any New Yorker who has not purchased a Met Opera ticket since 2019 is eligible.

The app's digital eligibility verification is a key feature, part of every easy-connect app. An institution sets the rule, and the app checks it before a ticket is issued, working with specialized verification services in the background. This approach can verify people in need, recipients of SNAP benefits, military personnel/veterans, teachers, and first responders, among others.

Wolfgang Graf, Co-Founder & CEO of easy-connect, expressed pride in the partnership.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Metropolitan Opera to engage with a wider audience. By leveraging the power of technology, the Met aims to break down barriers and make opera more accessible to a diverse range of New Yorkers.
