Medical Care Technologies Inc., a technology company based in Mesa, Arizona, is set to demonstrate its StrainScan Pro platform for the first time in a restaurant setting. The company aims to showcase how its AI vision software can improve kitchen workflows and reduce waste in the foodservice industry.
StrainScan Pro is an enterprise visual analysis platform designed to run on iPad Air devices. The software is intended to help kitchens make faster and more consistent visual quality decisions, which can significantly impact the bottom line. According to Marshall Perkins, CEO of Medical Care Technologies, "A restaurant does not need a lab. It needs a fast visual check at the door, again before prep, and again at the pass. That is the demo we are preparing."
The first demonstration is being built around a three-station inspection path: receiving, staging/prep hold, and pass station. At the receiving station, incoming produce is imaged and analyzed to flag visible defects, bruising, wilting, color inconsistency, or other quality issues before the product is stored or prepped. The staging/prep hold station allows for a review of products before they hit the line, catching any deterioration that occurred after receiving. The pass station reviews finished or plated items for visual consistency before they leave the kitchen.
The platform is designed to follow the same on-device pipeline already defined for StrainScan Pro: acquire a usable image, index it to the station and lot, run differential visual analysis against expected appearance, and route exceptions for hold, secondary review, or rejection. The purpose is to catch visual failures before they become waste, remakes, comps, and food-cost variance.
The company is targeting the restaurant and foodservice market, which is estimated to be worth nearly $4 trillion globally. In the U.S., restaurant and foodservice sales are projected to reach $1.55 trillion in 2026. Late visual failures in this market can result in significant losses, including thrown product, inconsistent plates, and margin leakage. StrainScan Pro aims to address these issues by providing a fast and consistent visual check at critical points in the kitchen workflow.
Perkins added, "In a kitchen, speed and consistency are crucial. StrainScan Pro can help catch a bad case before it is cut, stored, or plated, ensuring that only the highest quality products reach the guest."
StrainScan Pro is currently available at strainscanpro.com. The company is focused on developing and commercializing artificial intelligence-powered applications spanning health, wellness, nutrition, lifestyle, and enterprise imaging analysis solutions.
