MEDELLÍN, Colombia, Oct. 15, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Medellín, Colombia, welcomed 1.2 million foreign tourists in 2025, according to the city's Department of Tourism and Entertainment. The tourism sector generated an economic impact of five trillion pesos (1.552 billion dollars), marking a significant boost for the local economy.
The city, known as the "City of Eternal Spring" for its nearly year-round temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius (77°F), has seen a steady increase in international visitors. The department reports that the number of foreign tourists is growing annually at nearly 10%.
By country of origin, 33% of foreign tourists visiting Medellín are from the United States, followed by visitors from Mexico, Ecuador, Spain, Peru, and Panama. The actual number of international visitors is believed to be higher than arrivals at José María Córdova International Airport, as tourists often travel inland to explore the city beyond the airport.
Medellín is expanding its tourism offerings beyond the traditional Comuna 13 and its graffiti tour. The city now promotes experiences in neighborhoods such as Manrique, which combines culture, gastronomy, urban art, and music, and Perpetuo Socorro, which has been transformed into a creative district. Apart from urban tours, Medellín offers a range of activities including nature, wellness, gastronomy, sports, and health initiatives. There is a special emphasis on eco-tourism, as nearly 70% of the city consists of natural areas.
Foreign tourists typically stay between four and six nights in Medellín and spend an average of about 210,000 pesos (around $66) per night, mainly on gastronomy, culture, shopping, and wellness.
The city's tourism sector is also benefiting from entertainment, with concerts, festivals, and major events drawing both domestic and international visitors. Artists such as Shakira, Maluma, J Balvin, Guns N' Roses, Juanes, and Juan Luis Guerra have performed in Medellín in 2025, contributing to the city's vibrant cultural scene.
With its growing appeal and diverse offerings, Medellín continues to position itself as a key tourism hub in Colombia, attracting a mix of adventure seekers, nature enthusiasts, and culture lovers. The city's commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in its expanding tourism portfolio, making it an increasingly popular destination for international travelers.
