Medartis Group Acquires M.A.R.C. Institute for US Training Center

The Medartis Group has expanded its global footprint by acquiring the M.A.R.C. Institute, a leading surgical training and bioskills research facility in Doral, Florida. This acquisition marks the Group's first permanent training center outside Europe and its largest, boasting 36 fully equipped surgical stations capable of hosting up to 140 participants at one time.
Founded in 2008 by surgeons, the M.A.R.C. Institute has been a cornerstone in surgical education and research, serving universities, medical societies, healthcare professionals, and medical device companies. The institute's proximity to the Miami International Airport makes it easily accessible to participants from North and South America. Its wet lab offers hands-on training under realistic operating conditions using fresh-frozen specimens, complemented by CT scan and fracture simulation capabilities.
The Medartis Group, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and a global leader in medical devices for surgical fixation and joint replacement, sees the acquisition as a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the US market.
Under the new ownership, the M.A.R.C. Institute will continue to operate independently, managed by its current leadership team in partnership with the International Bone Research Association (IBRA). Heloise Peixoto, the institute's general manager, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Through this acquisition, the M.A.R.C. Institute's mission continues. Supported by planned investment in our infrastructure, that will expand the range of courses the center can offer."
The M.A.R.C. Institute also maintains a presence in Brazil, with sites in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Curitiba. These sites allow for decentralized training and education activities, aligning with the Medartis Group's existing presence in the region through its brands Medartis and NeoOrtho. The acquisition is expected to enhance the Group's ability to provide hands-on training with experienced faculty closer to surgeons across the Americas.
Al Weinstein, co-founder and former CEO of the M.A.R.C. The Medartis Group plans to invest in modernizing the center while keeping it open throughout the renovation phase. The center will retain its name and continue to offer its existing training and research programs, ensuring that its commitment to education and innovation remains intact.
