BASEL, Switzerland and HENDERSON, Nev., Oct. 6, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Research Solutions and MDPI have joined forces to enhance the discoverability and attribution of open-access research in artificial intelligence (AI) tools. This collaboration aims to make MDPI's extensive journal portfolio more accessible to researchers who increasingly rely on AI assistants for their literature discovery needs.

MDPI, a leading open-access publisher based in Switzerland, has partnered with Research Solutions, a provider of AI-powered scientific research tools, to integrate MDPI's content into Scite and the Scite MCP. This initiative ensures that researchers can access MDPI's open-access publications directly from AI environments such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot.

Under the agreement, MDPI's content is indexed in Scite, where articles are enriched with Smart Citations. These citations provide context for the citations and illustrate how findings have been evaluated by the broader literature. The content is also discoverable through the Scite MCP, making it available in AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. Research Solutions will manage the indexing, transformation, authentication, and integration, ensuring no technical burden is placed on MDPI.

The integration of MDPI's content into AI tools is significant because researchers are increasingly initiating literature discovery within AI assistants rather than traditional search interfaces. Currently, published research in these tools is referenced without consistent attribution, without a link to the authoritative article, and without publisher visibility into content usage and user demographics. This partnership aims to address these issues by providing accurate and reliable access to MDPI's open-access publications.

MDPI's publication portfolio, which includes over 500 journals across all scientific disciplines, is now fully indexed and discoverable through the Scite Publisher Gateway. Since launching earlier this year, the Scite MCP has served over 22 million requests, with monthly volume growing more than 30% month over month. This rapid growth underscores the increasing importance of integrating open-access content into AI tools to meet the needs of modern researchers.

The partnership between MDPI and Research Solutions is a significant step towards ensuring that high-quality research is freely accessible to readers across the globe. By leveraging AI tools, the collaboration aims to enhance the discoverability and attribution of open-access research, ultimately benefiting the scientific community and driving innovation forward.
