On September 4, 2026, MDC Data Centers announced it has secured a minority investment from Columbia Capital, a leading communications and infrastructure investment firm. This move is set to support the company’s expansion efforts across the U.S.-Mexico border and within Mexico itself.

The investment will fund MDC’s ongoing infrastructure buildout, which includes enhancing capacity at its U.S. border data centers and developing new interconnection hubs in Querétaro, Mexico. Additionally, the company will develop cable landing hubs at Cancún and Veracruz, where it has been selected as the neutral landing partner for the MANTA submarine cable system.

Juan Salazar, CEO of MDC Data Centers, stated, "Our customers have always told us where they needed to go next, and we have built toward it. Columbia's investment lets us keep saying yes at the pace they are moving, both at the border and now inside Mexico. What remains unchanged is how we operate: we are Actively Neutral™, the neutral party networks trust to find their connections into and out of Mexico, and never a competitor to any of them."

Columbia Capital is backing MDC Data Centers through two new board directors: Patrick Hendy, a partner at Columbia Capital, and Bill Cook, the founder and former CEO of Summit IG, and current Chairman of BIG Fiber, Xenith IG, and CENTRA Digital. The move is expected to bolster MDC’s growth strategy and enhance its capabilities in the region.

Hendy added, "MDC has built something that is difficult to replicate: a neutral interconnection footprint at the intersection of the U.S. and Mexican digital economies, with fifteen years of customer trust behind it. We're thrilled to back Juan and his team for the next phase of MDC's growth."

MDC Data Centers operates eight data centers and nine border crossings in key U.S. and Mexican cities, including McAllen, Laredo, Eagle Pass, El Paso, Nogales, and San Diego. The company connects more than sixty networks, helping each find the routes, partners, and markets they could not see on their own. In development are new interconnection hubs in Brownsville, Texas, and in Querétaro, Mexico, as well as cable landing hubs at Cancún and Veracruz.

Salazar emphasized, "Our Actively Neutral™ model ensures that we are a fierce, even-handed advocate for every customer's success, and that remains at the core of what we do."

With this investment, MDC Data Centers aims to continue its growth trajectory, leveraging the expertise of Columbia Capital to navigate the complex and evolving landscape of digital infrastructure and interconnection in the U.S.-Mexico corridor.
