Maverick Corporation, a leading firm in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, has been awarded a significant contract to build New York City's largest curbside EV charging network. The project, known as PlugNYC, will see the installation of 600 new chargers across all five boroughs over the next three years. This initiative is part of New York City’s broader Green Rides Initiative, which aims to make all Uber and Lyft trips licensed by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) electric or accessible by 2030.
Maverick Corporation, founded in 1996, has a long-standing relationship with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and other local entities, having completed several hundred EV infrastructure projects in the region. The company will be responsible for the design, construction, and installation of the new chargers, working in partnership with it's electric, a U.S. leader in curbside EV charging solutions.
The project is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the city’s ambitious climate goals.
The new chargers will be strategically placed in neighborhoods with high concentrations of TLC drivers and limited off-street parking. This targeted approach is designed to make EV charging more accessible and affordable, supporting the transition from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to electric ones.
Maverick and it's electric have a proven track record of working together on large-scale EV infrastructure projects. In 2025, they delivered the City of Boston's curbside charging program, showcasing their ability to execute such projects at scale. "We know firsthand what it takes to execute at this scale, Maverick was our partner when we did our first-of-a-kind buildout for the City of Boston, and their decades of experience were a huge part of getting that project powered and delivered. Now, as we take on the largest curbside charging buildout in the country, having a partner with 30 years of Make Ready experience behind every install is what makes a project like this actually possible."
Maverick Corporation's extensive experience and proven track record make it well-suited for this ambitious project. The company has completed numerous EV infrastructure projects, including a 5,000-charger buildout in the Northwest, and has worked with clients such as NYPA, the New York Office of General Services, Applegreen, the City of Boston, Eversource, and Rhode Island's NEVI program.
