PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Ahrefs, an SEO and AI marketing intelligence platform, has released the findings of its 2026 State of AI in Content Marketing Survey, revealing a significant shift in how marketers perceive and use AI-generated content. The survey, conducted among 300 marketing and SEO professionals, including 68 upper management respondents, highlights a growing confidence in AI's capabilities while emphasizing the continued importance of human oversight.
According to the survey, 57% of respondents still believe that human-written content is of higher quality than AI-generated content, down from 65% in 2025. However, the share of marketers who say AI content is better has risen to 24%, up from 14% in the previous year. This shift indicates a growing acceptance of AI in content creation, despite lingering concerns about quality.
Despite the increased confidence in AI, the survey shows that marketers are adopting a "trust but verify" approach. Eighty-nine percent of AI users manually check AI-generated content, an increase from 80% in 2025. Additionally, 66% of respondents trust AI-written content only when a human reviews it before use, underscoring the ongoing need for human oversight in content creation.
Claude, an AI language model, has emerged as the top choice among marketers, with 84% of AI users surveyed selecting it for their content creation needs. This is followed by ChatGPT, used by 75% of respondents, and Gemini, used by 57%. Upper management respondents also showed a similar preference, with 79% using Claude, 73% using ChatGPT, and 55% using Gemini.
The survey also found that AI adoption is nearly universal among respondents, with 93% using AI to create or help create content, up from 87% in 2025. This widespread adoption has led to significant productivity gains, with 85% of marketers reporting that they are producing content faster. Among upper management respondents, 62% say AI has made content production "much quicker," a 13 percentage point increase from the total respondents.
The use of AI in content creation is extending beyond basic tasks. The survey revealed that AI is increasingly being used for more specialized work, such as data analysis, image creation, topic identification, and creating content from scratch. The number of respondents using AI for data analysis has more than doubled, from 28% in 2025 to 60% in 2026. Similarly, the use of AI for image creation has increased from 19% to 44%, and the use of AI for topic identification has doubled from 23% to 46%.
The findings of the survey suggest that while AI is becoming an integral part of content creation, human oversight remains a critical component. As AI continues to evolve and improve, marketers are likely to find new ways to integrate it into their workflows while maintaining the quality and authenticity of their content.
