M5 Technologies, a Canadian telecommunications technology company with a heritage dating back to 1992, has introduced its Mediatrix Sentinel portfolio, designed to enhance secure cloud and enterprise communications. The portfolio includes three key products: Sentinel CS Virtual SBC, Sentinel 100, and Sentinel 400, each tailored to meet the diverse needs of businesses, telecommunications operators, and cloud service providers.

The Sentinel CS Virtual SBC is a software-based solution that operates within virtualized computing environments, either on local infrastructure or in supported cloud environments. Unlike traditional SBC appliances, which require dedicated physical hardware, Sentinel CS can function as software on compatible virtual infrastructure. This flexibility allows organizations to design, deploy, and expand their telecommunications networks with greater ease. According to M5 Technologies, Sentinel CS supports up to 20,000 concurrent SBC sessions and 30,000 registered users, subject to licensing and computing resources. The solution includes advanced SIP routing, signaling normalization, network topology hiding, TLS 1.3 security, SRTP media encryption, call admission control, quality-of-service management, and network troubleshooting capabilities.

Sentinel 100, a compact hardware-based Session Border Controller, is designed for small and medium-sized businesses that require secure and reliable telephone connectivity. Supporting up to 120 simultaneous SBC sessions and 500 registered users, Sentinel 100 offers enterprise-grade communication control within a dedicated appliance. It can help businesses connect their existing telephone systems to modern SIP trunk providers without completely replacing their current infrastructure. Sentinel 100 also supports compatible Microsoft Teams Direct Routing configurations, allowing organizations to integrate Microsoft Teams Phone with their telecommunications infrastructure.

The Sentinel 400 is a modular telecommunications platform that combines the capabilities of a Session Border Controller, a media gateway, and a virtualization server. Designed for medium-sized and large enterprises, Sentinel 400 supports configurations of up to 2,000 simultaneous SBC sessions and 6,000 registered users. One of its key advantages is the ability to connect modern IP-based communications networks with compatible traditional telephone systems. Depending on its hardware configuration, Sentinel 400 supports interfaces including E1/T1 PRI, ISDN BRI, FXS, and FXO. This is particularly useful for organizations operating legacy telephone equipment that cannot be immediately replaced. Sentinel 400 can serve as an interconnection and security platform between these systems, allowing organizations to modernize their communications infrastructure progressively.

M5 Technologies' solutions address the growing importance of voice communications security in today's interconnected corporate data networks, cloud services, and internet infrastructure. The Mediatrix Sentinel portfolio provides specialized mechanisms for protecting SIP-based communications, including traffic inspection, encryption support, access control, network topology protection, and call-routing policies. These functions help organizations reduce exposure to unauthorized communications traffic and manage the boundaries between trusted and external voice networks. The solutions also offer monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to help telecommunications administrators investigate technical issues and maintain service quality.

Through its Sentinel portfolio, M5 Technologies aims to help organizations adopt modern voice communications while preserving compatible existing infrastructure. Rather than requiring a complete replacement of every telephone system, SBC technology can provide an essential connection between traditional communications equipment and modern IP-based platforms. This approach can be especially valuable for businesses managing complex networks, multiple locations, specialized telephone equipment, or gradual migrations toward cloud communications.
