The team, co-owned by Alexis Ohanian, Issa Rae, and Savannah James, is set to debut in the upcoming season, bringing a fresh face to the world of women's sports in Los Angeles.
The team name, Los Angeles Orbit, was chosen to reflect the idea of gravity, the pull, energy, and connection created when people rally around something they love. At the center of this orbit is the athlete, the fan, the girl in the stands, and the teammate. The name underscores the team's commitment to being at the heart of the community it serves.
At the unveiling event, which was attended by key figures including LOVB Commissioner Sandra Idehen, volleyball legend Misty May-Treanor, activist Malala Yousafzai, and several players, the team highlighted its vision of inclusivity and community engagement.
The team's leadership emphasized the importance of bringing women and girls to the center of the experience.
To support its community impact efforts, Los Angeles Orbit has partnered with Yaamava' Resort & Casino at San Manuel. As part of this partnership, the team will launch Aces Up, a new community impact platform that connects moments on the court to tangible impact across Los Angeles. For every ace Los Angeles Orbit records at home, Yaamava' will donate $1,000 to support the club's community work throughout the city.
The team's inaugural season is set to begin in the coming months, with fans invited to participate in the Free Fan Fest at Intuit Dome on September 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this event, fans will have the opportunity to meet the players, engage in volleyball activities, and customize team gear. The fest is expected to be a vibrant celebration of the team's spirit and its commitment to the community.
Los Angeles Orbit is part of the League One Volleyball (LOVB) ecosystem, which launched its professional league in January 2025, featuring many of the world's best players, including American Olympic silver medalists and athletes from around the globe. As the seventh franchise in the LOVB league, Los Angeles Orbit is poised to bring a new level of excitement to the sport in the city.
