AALBORG, Denmark, Oct. 13, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Lithium Harvest Holding A/S has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with a geothermal development partner to develop a large-scale geothermal power and lithium production facility in Alberta, Canada. The project, set to begin production in 2028, aims to produce 0.67 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable electricity and 28,500 tonnes of lithium carbonate annually at full capacity.
According to the terms of the LOI, the joint venture will combine Lithium Harvest’s Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology with the geothermal development partner’s expertise. The integrated design will use geothermal heat for power generation and geothermal brine as the feedstock for lithium extraction and refining. This approach is intended to improve resource utilization and strengthen domestic lithium supply in North America.
The project is part of Lithium Harvest’s broader strategy to produce some of the world’s cleanest energy and lithium.
Lithium Harvest plans to advance the proposed joint venture through several key workstreams. These include finalizing joint venture arrangements and the integrated development plan, confirming geothermal resource and lithium process performance, advancing engineering, permitting, and commercial arrangements, and securing the project financing required for construction.
The project is designed to serve two markets: responsible and reliable electricity and battery materials. Combining the production streams is intended to improve resource utilization, while phased development will allow capital to be deployed progressively. The project also has the potential to dramatically diversify the North American lithium supply chain.
Based on current project estimates, operation at full nameplate capacity could avoid up to 933,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Actual reductions will depend on the final design, operating performance, electricity displacement, and reference scenarios used for comparison.
Lithium Harvest Holding A/S develops lithium projects from oil & gas produced water and geothermal brines using proprietary DLE technology integrated with water treatment and refining. Through its lithium portfolio and integrated geothermal developments, the company aims to produce some of the world’s cleanest energy and lithium.
