ZUG, Switzerland, Sept. 15, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Lithium Argentina, a producer of lithium carbonate for electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries, has secured a significant strategic investment from Ganfeng Lithium Group Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese lithium producer. The company announced the closing of a $180 million investment through the issuance of a six-year unsecured convertible note.

Sam Pigott, CEO of Lithium Argentina, commented, "This strategic investment from Ganfeng, combined with cash distributions from our Cauchari-Olaroz operation, will significantly strengthen our balance sheet. We now have lower net debt, a six-year maturity profile, and a low cost of capital, providing us with the flexibility to advance Stage 2 at Cauchari-Olaroz and support our partnership with PPG in a disciplined, phased approach."

The convertible note bears a 4.0% annual coupon and matures six years from issuance. Upon maturity, it can be converted into common shares of Lithium Argentina at a price of $12.50 per share. Net proceeds, along with cash on hand, will be used to repay the company's $259 million convertible notes due in January 2027. This repayment is expected to improve the company's financial position and reduce its debt burden.

Ganfeng currently holds approximately 9.6% of Lithium Argentina's issued and outstanding common shares. If the note is fully converted, Ganfeng would receive an additional 14.4 million common shares, increasing its ownership to approximately 16.1% on a fully diluted basis.

Lithium Argentina operates the Cauchari-Olaroz lithium brine operation in the Jujuy province of Argentina and is advancing the PPG project in the Salta province. The company plans to complete the joint venture with Ganfeng for the consolidation of the Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes project by the end of September 2026.

The strategic investment and the upcoming completion of the PPG joint venture are expected to enhance the company's operational flexibility and financial stability. Lithium Argentina aims to leverage these resources to drive growth and ensure the long-term success of its operations in Argentina.
