Lions Clubs International Foundation Awards $200,000 for Nepal Flood Relief

OAK BROOK, Ill., Sept. 10, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Lions Clubs International Foundation has awarded a $200,000 grant to support flood relief efforts in Nepal, where devastating flash floods have left over 1,000 people dead and thousands missing. The floods, triggered by the collapse of glacial ice and rock near the Nepal-China border, have caused widespread destruction, affecting homes, roads, schools, and critical infrastructure.
In response, Lions Clubs in Nepal are using the grant to provide immediate relief and support longer-term recovery. Immediate assistance includes food packages, drinking water, blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene and sanitation kits, basic clothing, first-aid supplies, and essential medical supplies. Temporary shelters are also being set up for those displaced by the floods.
Lions are also involved in rescue operations and are working to clear flood debris and mud from affected areas. Additionally, they will offer short-term care and rehabilitation assistance to children who have lost parents or other family members in the disaster.
A.P. Singh, chairperson of Lions Clubs International Foundation, stated, "When disaster strikes, Lions step forward. In the wake of the devastating floods, Lions are coming together to reach people in need, providing relief, supporting affected families, and standing beside communities through one of their most difficult moments."
The grant is part of LCIF's Disaster Relief Grant program, which supports Lions-led efforts through all phases of disaster response. Since July 1, 2026, LCIF has awarded more than $1.3 million in disaster relief funding to Lions in regions impacted by natural disasters around the world.
Lions across Nepal have also raised an additional $67,000 for relief efforts. Lions in several other countries are contributing financially to support the recovery efforts. With these resources, local Lions are developing plans to help the region rebuild after immediate needs are met.
Singh added, "Lions’ service is more than a one-time volunteer activity. It is a commitment to stand with people when they need us most." The foundation emphasizes that its efforts are not just about immediate aid but also about long-term support and rebuilding communities.
