Lakeland Fire + Safety, a leading manufacturer of protective clothing and apparel for industry, healthcare, and first responders, has secured a second consecutive contract to supply flame-resistant foul weather gear to the Hong Kong Government Flying Service (GFS). The contract, awarded on August 21, 2026, will provide specialized outerwear for GFS Pilots and Engineering Officers.
The GFS, a disciplined force under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, operates round-the-clock to provide aerial support for search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, internal security, and disaster relief missions. As of December 31, 2024, the GFS boasted a personnel count of 331 and a fleet of 12 aircraft, including three fixed-wing and nine helicopters, serving a population of over 7.5 million in Hong Kong and its surrounding waters.
In 2020, LHD Group Hong Kong, a subsidiary of Lakeland, designed a specialized foul weather suit to meet the rigorous operational demands faced by GFS aircrew. The suit, constructed from GORE-TEX® PYRAD® fabric, offers flame resistance, waterproofing, and breathability without compromising mobility or comfort. Following positive feedback and operational use, the GFS requested design modifications to better accommodate the needs of Pilots and Engineering Officers, including ergonomic adjustments and enhanced mobility features.
The latest contract, a follow-up to an initial award in 2020, underscores Lakeland’s position as a reliable partner in high-performance protective apparel for elite emergency response units. This extends the company’s presence in the Asia-Pacific first responder market, where it serves fire services, police forces, and aviation units through its service centers in Hong Kong and Australia.
Jim Jenkins, President and CEO of Lakeland Fire + Safety, stated, "This award is an endorsement of the work our team delivered six years ago that has performed in the field every day since. The GFS is one of the most demanding aerial emergency response organizations in the region, and the decision to extend the program came only after years of operational use and a rigorous re-evaluation against competing suppliers. This shows how our specialized design capability differentiates us in competitive government tenders."
Peter Chan, Managing Director of LHD Group Hong Kong, added, "We are honored to continue our partnership with the GFS, which is recognized as one of the most respected aerial emergency response organizations in the region. This contract reflects the trust that the GFS has placed in our design capabilities and product quality."
