KRWQ Outlines Vision for Global Korean Won Markets

CAYMAN ISLANDS, Sept. 23, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- KRWQ, the first and largest Korean won stablecoin, has outlined its vision for the future of the Korean won in global digital markets. The company aims to support the internationalization of the won by bringing KRW markets onchain, expanding global access to Korean assets, and working constructively with Korean regulators and financial institutions.
KRWQ believes that blockchain-based financial infrastructure can complement Korea's efforts to internationalize the won. The company has already made significant strides by listing KRWQ as the first non-USD stablecoin on EDX Markets, a Citadel-backed exchange. KRWQ is listed on EDX Markets' US-based spot trading venue, and the stablecoin perpetual futures contract is listed on EDXM International.
The company's immediate focus is on the offshore Korean won market, particularly the non-deliverable forward (NDF) market used by international institutions to trade and hedge KRW exposure. A significant share of global KRW trading takes place outside Korea through financial centers such as London, Singapore, and Hong Kong. KRWQ aims to bring these markets onchain, enabling 24/7 access to KRW-denominated liquidity and creating new infrastructure for FX trading, hedging, settlement, and eventually tokenized Korean assets.
The Korean government has taken a series of steps to make the won more accessible internationally, improving access for foreign financial institutions and developing a broader roadmap for the internationalization of the currency. KRWQ believes a globally accessible, transparent onchain representation of the won can support this direction by creating additional international demand for KRW and Korean financial assets.
As part of this strategy, KRWQ is exploring the acquisition and tokenization of Korean Treasury Bonds (KTBs) and other high-quality Korean assets for use within its reserve framework. Over time, growing international demand for KRWQ could translate into additional offshore demand for KRW and Korean government securities.
KRWQ is committed to operating in good faith and developing its infrastructure in a manner consistent with evolving Korean and international regulatory standards. The company's current strategy is focused on offshore and global markets rather than Korean retail users. As Korea establishes a formal regulatory framework for won-denominated stablecoins, KRWQ intends to evaluate how it can participate within that framework.
The objective of KRWQ is not to move the Korean won outside the Korean financial system but to expand the won's role within the global financial system. A successful global KRW stablecoin ecosystem could increase international access to the won, create additional demand for Korean government securities, provide Korean businesses and global investors with more efficient FX infrastructure, and strengthen the won's position as an international currency.
KRWQ believes Korea has an opportunity to become a leader in the emerging intersection of digital assets, tokenized capital markets, and global FX. The company's goal is straightforward: build global infrastructure for the Korean won in a transparent and compliant way, while working constructively with Korean regulators and financial institutions to ensure that KRWQ's growth ultimately benefits Korea.
