Kindred, a global home swapping platform, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 500,000 nights swapped since its launch in 2022. This achievement marks a shift in how people are choosing to travel, driven by rising costs and increased regulatory pressure on hotels and short-term rentals.
According to Justine Palefsky, Co-Founder and CEO of Kindred, the milestone reflects a broader trend where travelers are opting for community-driven alternatives.
Kindred's model relies on non-commercial exchanges, with over 90% of homes on the platform being members' primary residences. This approach keeps supply out of the short-term rental market and in the hands of everyday people, making it a more affordable and trustworthy option for travelers.
The company has seen significant growth since the introduction of Kindred Circles, which enables members to swap homes within trusted sub-communities built around shared networks, interests, or values. Circles include the recently launched Women Traveler's Circle and Family Travel Circle, among others.
Kindred now boasts over 400,000 members across 150+ cities, with growth accelerating since the introduction of Circles. The platform maintains a high member satisfaction score of 9+ out of 10, despite rapid expansion. Unlike short-term rental platforms, Kindred's model is rooted in trust and connection, with every home swap depending on members opening up their real homes to others.
Kindred operates across North America and Europe, with key markets including New York, London, Los Angeles, Barcelona, and Paris. The company plans to expand Circles to new sub-communities based on member demand, continuing to offer a third option of accommodation for travelers.
